Garage Door Spring System Conversion in Chicago

The garage door in Chicago needed its spring system changed, and the existing opener was replaced with a wall-mount model that works with MyQ. We completed this installation in October 2026 for a homeowner with a sectional garage door.

Garage Door Spring System Conversion

We converted the door’s spring system and installed the new components above the door. The spring system, the shaft and springs mounted over the garage door, is visible across the top of the sectional panels in the job photos. The finished setup includes the torsion shaft, springs, center support, and end supports positioned above the door.

This type of work affects how the door is supported as it moves. The springs help counterbalance the weight of the door, so the components need to be installed in the correct position on the shaft. The photos show the completed spring assembly spanning the upper section of the door, with the cable drums located at both ends.

Wall-Mount Garage Door Opener Installation

We also installed a wall-mount garage door opener with MyQ. Instead of hanging from a ceiling rail, this opener is mounted beside the garage door and connects to the door’s torsion shaft. The photos show the opener positioned on the side wall near the upper corner of the door, with the drive system connected to the shaft.

The sectional door has several horizontal panels and vertical tracks on both sides. The new opener is set up to operate this existing door without the long overhead opener body normally seen in the center of the garage ceiling. MyQ capability was included as part of the new opener installation.

Completed Garage Door Upgrade

When we finished, the Chicago garage had a converted spring system and a new wall-mount MyQ opener in place. The work addressed both the door’s spring arrangement and its opener system in one visit, leaving the upper area of the garage organized around the new side-mounted equipment.
